Pastor Thomas Michaels was until recently the leader of the Spring Avenue “Church of His Lord And Master” in DuBois. He served a small congregation of 54 church members since 2007. However, he was arrested on Wednesday May 1, 2013, and was released on bail three days later. Michaels was stepped down as Pastor due to the controversy and was replaced by local philanthropist Seth Applegate. Applegate has served under Michaels for several years as an Assistant Pastor and Church Elder.  Michaels now spends his days within the Spring Avenure Church, serving as a board member and Church Elder.

Reverend Michael Thomas was a very active man in the communities of DuBois and Luthersburg in the early 1900’s. He was the Pastor of a small congregation known as The Chapel of Contemplation.  The Chapel’s activities in the area came under fire from local law enforcement in 1912, and the Reverend was arrested. The arrest was a main event in the area as several congregation members and police officers alike were killed during the raid on the Chapel due to gun-play and a resulting fire that destroyed the building itself. Thomas was convicted and sentenced to forty years, however he only served five. In 1917, he was found to be missing by correction officers during the midnight headcount. He was never found, and apparently just “disappeared.”  He remained on the FBI “Most Wanted” list until 2008 when he was removed, and presumed to be dead.

Jane McDermott is a State Police officer operating in the Clearfield County area.  She’s been out of the academy for about a year and a half now, which is long enough that her peers don’t call her “rookie” anymore unless they’re trying to get under her skin. In fact, her fellow officers made a point of giving her a necklace with a silver bullet on it to commemorate the time she saved a man from a rabid coyote that attacked him while he was changing his tire on the roadside.

HOMETOWN HEROES: “THE TWO SLACKERS”

Hometown-Heroes-Banner

Investigators know all types of people. These two guys are the iconic slackers who constantly loiter at the Brady Street Sheetz. They are typically just hanging out and watching the goings on of Greater Downtown DuBois. Although they don’t work they always seem to have money to spend on snacks and electronic gadgets. Although this is partially from their intentional abuse of the local Welfare system, it might also be related to their statuses as Expert Street Pharmacists, slinging whatever kind of drug the folks in DuBois want at the time. The Slackers see a lot of what’s going on around town, and for the right price they might tell you what they know.
